Why you joined Jack and Jill: I joined Jack and Jill because it is an organization based on family that supports values that are important to me. Membership came at a time when I was seeking a culturally based, civic and leadership outlet for my children. Jack and Jill filled that void and provided so much more, a second family. While we do many activities on our own, it’s been more impactful for my children to experience it as part of a group. We really do work, play and live together. The benefits of membership for me and my family are endless.

Deidre Lindsey
Regional Treasurer
Indianapolis Chapter

Previous roles: President, Vice President, Program Director, Editor, Historian, Regional Program Chair, Regional Program Handbook Reading Team, 2016 Teen Leadership Conference Co-Chair, Strategic Planning Chair, Tri-State COE Lead, Chapter Development Lead, JJMWR Leadership Academy Lead

Time in J&J: 12 years

Family: David (husband), three daughters, Ayana, Shelby, and Jaidyn, and one grandson, Chance

Why you joined Jack and Jill: I joined Jack and Jill because the organization’s mission to nurture and develop the next generation of African American leaders was closely aligned to my personal goals for my children. Several of my friends were members so I was able to see not only the positive benefits of membership on them but also the exposure of their children to activities that helped shape and develop them as leaders, provided opportunities to engage in community service, and instilled skills and knowledge valuable for life. As a new resident to the city of Indianapolis, I was also interested in expanding my network of friends in a city in which I had no familial ties.

Time in J&J: I joined Jack and Jill in 2007
Family: Addington (Husband) and three sons
Why you joined Jack and Jill: I joined Jack and Jill when my eldest son was three years old because I wanted my children to be a part of a loving community with similar values that was committed to helping them reach their full potential.

Marvis Donalson
Foundation Member at Large
Western Cook County Chapter

I am a native Texan with a 14 year old son, named Blake. Our family joined Jack and Jill of America May 2011.

During my tenure I have served my chapter in many leadership roles: Service Committee Chair, Grade Group Leader, Program Director, IL Area Workday Cluster Chair, Fundraising Chair, Vice-President, 35th Anniversary Chair, and recently President.

In addition to my chapter I have served on the Regional and National Level as Regional Programming Committee, Regional Grant Reader, and Regional Membership Committee.

I joined Jack and Jill because I wanted to connect with like-minded mothers wanting to give their children culturally rich experiences that also focused on leadership development and philanthropic giving. Being part of JJ has given me that and more. As a single mother, the organization has been my extended village since I have no family in the area. I love my JJ Family! I am excited to share my passion for service with the Mid-Western Region. I know that
together we will be able to impact our children and the communities we live in.
